Artist Statement

I exist in the world of fashion. Coming from a conservative background, I learned to utilize the art of the fashion world to express myself in ways my words cannot. Whether that be in the form of garment construction, writing, or drawing, my art and my role as an artist stems from a place of communication, and the ability to convey messages less effective in other mediums. 

When creating work, I firmly believe in the existence of fashion in the world of art, and thus, my work follows suit. I focus heavily on what fashion means as a study and passion, how clothes change the body, what a garment means when worn by one person vs another, how it fits the wearer, and what it communicates. I construct garments based on this principle, whether it be taking inspiration from couturiers or the average fashionista, my passion stems from the diversity of the industry. However what separates my role in fashion from others is a lack of judgment regarding what makes something stylish, as I believe that every style is stylish so long as it serves a purpose beyond a small-time fad. Likewise, I write in a similar matter, analyzing styles and designers that contribute to a greater understanding of fashion from trends and their deeper-seated meanings to the usage of certain colors in a garment and how a collection applies itself to the zeitgeist of the time. Every style and every garment and every color and every shape has a reason for its existence and my role is to utilize, analyze, and critique such reasons to my furthest ability.
